This probably isn't the first time you've heard the following three words this season: Viral Birkenstock clogs (shop in Canada here, in the U.S. here). Influencers and Nordstrom shoppers alike have been raving about the suede take on a Danish footwear classic.
An unlikely trend for 2022, this clog resurgence has historical roots. Dating back to the thirteenth century, clogs were the staple shoe for factory workers, farmers and fishermen. Today, they're the go-to look for for the off-duty fashion circuit. While they aren't a shoe you'll necessarily see in more formal settings, this Birkenstock trend is popular for anyone committing to a casual cool look this fall.
We also can't ignore that the past two yeas have seen many people opt for comfort over style. While a resurgence in dressing up was expected, the Birkenstock clog trend has proven that a lot of us aren't quite ready to give up our slippers and comfy shoes just yet.

While I was one of the lucky few to snag a pair of the Birkenstock Boston Clog in suede taupe, I've since set my sights on the shearling iteration for cooler-weather days. This shearling-lined clog has the same Birkenstock Boston silhouette in classic suede. The shearling interior gives extra cushioning and moisture-wicking comfort while the natural cork-and-latex footbed beneath contours in the shape of a healthy foot for proper weight distribution.
I can attest to the maximum comfort and slipper-like effect of the suede Birkenstocks with the level of arch support recommended by every podiatrist. Perfect for walking the dog, running errands or dressing up with a pair of jeans and a blouse, these easy-to-wear shoes have become a fast favourite.
But I'm not the only Birkenstock clog enthusiast out there. Nordstrom shoppers also can't get enough of this cozy fall staple.
"Cozy, cute and now Birks are high fashion so I'm happy! The shearling is super warm, I've worn mine without socks in cold weather and my feet are still warm. I recommend wearing them around the house and deciding for yourself what works best. I still have room for socks in my pair because the foot bed conforms... try 'em out if you live in a cold climate and want a cozy slip on shoe that's also en vogue," shares one reviewer.
"Absolutely love the Birkenstock Boston! Especially loving the shearling lined version this season. No need to be scared of them. Pair with some slouchy boyfriend jeans and a cute tee, and you have the perfect hang out/brunch/casual Friday look. They are so comfortable you will not regret buying!" says another.

With a 4.5 star rating, the only flag from Birkenstock fans is you should size up due to the narrow fit and structured footbed of these clogs.
"I ordered these in both the 8-8.5 and 9-9.5. I ended up keeping the 9-9.5. Because of the molded footbed, you'll know right away which size is too small on you, and while the shearling might squish down over time, the shoe and footbed won't actually get any larger. If you're in-between sizes, I would suggest getting the slightly larger option," suggests one shopper.
"I normally wear a size 36 in Birkenstock shoes but I sized up to a 37 in these and it was a perfect fit. I was a little concerned that these clogs would not fit because they were the narrow width, so I was surprised to find that they actually fit my feet comfortably," shares another.
